Spring is in the air and most Covid restrictions have now been lifted - it's time to air out your tents, re-stock your campervans and get booking your campsites and festival tickets! Here are a few tips and tricks we've put together to make sure you're as prepared as possible for your camping trips.

Child-Friendly Festivals

Along with staycation vacations, family festivals are becoming increasingly popular, so what better way to spend this time sharing many lasting memories of the great outdoors with the whole family?

Are Festivals Suitable for Children?

There are plenty of venues to choose from throughout the summer, especially festivals designed to appeal to the whole family. In fact, some festivals have all-inclusive areas and festival programmes devoted entirely to children. You won't have to plan outdoor games every day to keep them entertained during the vacation.

Your children will enjoy getting their wellies muddy and dancing to different music. It's a memorable sensory experience for children of all ages and a great way to meet new people. Some venues offer onsite babysitting services, a variety of delicious food and beverages to choose from and various camping events and activities to suit the entire family.

Camping Holiday

Whether you're going on a mini-break for a weekend or longer, camping is the easiest way to appreciate what nature has to offer. At its best, it enables us to return to a simpler, more relaxed, and natural way of life. Its ability to improve skills and encourage creative thinking in children and adults of all ages is certainly a bonus.

However, if you don't want to go entirely off the grid, it's also fun to camp in comfort and luxury. You don't have to cut yourself from the rest of the world whilst enjoying the great outdoors.

Camping in Comfort

It's more reassuring to know that you'll have access to everyday technological marvels like iPads and Smartphones, which we all use at home and at work. Tablets and phones have become an indispensable component of everyone's camping gear, whether it's to keep in touch with family, learn about the area, or find a recipe for a fantastic campfire gourmet delight!

Tablets and cell phones are ideal for short trips. However, suppose you want to run a tent heater, power a camping fridge cooler, or charge multiple devices. In that case, you'll almost certainly need more power than your car can provide.

What generator do I need for camping?

Generators come in various outputs, typically those suitable for camping ranging from 300 to 900 watts. However, not all generators are suitable for use with tents or caravans, so it's essential to choose the right one that's both safe and efficient.

Ideally, an inverter generator can produce approximately 2300W peak output and 1800W in steady running.

What are the Benefits of a Portable Generator?

The main benefit of having a portable generator is taking it wherever you go. Portable generators are designed to be mobile because they are smaller than traditional generators. You'll be able to take your generator anywhere there's a need for power.

Generators, particularly inverter-generators, are perfect for an array of camping electricity devices. They are ideally compact, extremely portable, efficient, and wonderfully quiet.

Are you allowed to use a generator when camping?

Generators can be used for anything that requires power, but you must be considerate of other campers.

The ultimate part of the camping experience is sitting by the campfire at night. Having lights to guide you after the embers fade is a requirement; thus, having the option of utilising a generator when camping enhances the experience.

There are more green alternatives to powering your devices, however. If you're looking for a portable power source to charge your phones and tablets when camping, you may want to consider a solar charger such as the Hyundai H60 60W Portable and Foldable Solar Charger.

Can you run a generator inside a tent or caravan?

NEVER operate a generator inside or in partially enclosed spaces like garages, garden sheds, or even greenhouses. ONLY use outside, away from windows, doors, vents, crawl spaces, and other areas where ventilation is inadequate and fatal exhaust fumes gather.

Always check the manufacturers recommendations before using the product.

Why do I need to use a generator when camping?

Some may argue that using a generator defeats the purpose of camping and spending time in nature. But if we're being honest, having this portable power source on hand will make a significant difference to the enjoyment of your trip.

Here are a few suggestions why a portable generator is an ideal camping buddy.

    Cooking outdoors is more convenient!

While we all enjoy a good meal roasted over an open fire, some dishes are easier and faster to prepare on a portable electric stove. If you enjoy a coffee or hot chocolate in the morning, the same applies. Portable electric kettles make it easier to heat water for drinking.

    You can charge your gadgets.

But one of the ideas about camping is to get away from gadgets?

Yes it is, however, it is still critical to ensure that your mobile phone has enough battery life in an emergency. Having a portable power source, such as a generator, ensures that your phones, tablets, and even laptops are charged when you need them.

    Entertainment for all the family.

A portable generator can power various camping equipment, including toys to keep your kids occupied while you're organising your next activity. You could, for example, build your own theatre at your campsite. You can connect it to your generator for a fun movie night under the stars with family and friends if you have a projector.

Can you use a camping generator anywhere?

National Parks or Federal campsites strongly support the ethos that camping is the modern way of getting back to nature. Therefore, not all National Parks and campsites allow the use of generators. Having lots of small 4-stroke gas engines operating all over the site is not the atmosphere they want to preserve. The same is true for wild camping; Simultaneously, there are no restrictions on using a generator while wild camping. Some local regulations may prohibit the use of any type of mini generator.

    Simply check before you travel.

However, given how little noise a modern inverter generator makes, it's unlikely that anyone will notice you're running one. Unless, of course, if you plan on playing loud music or lighting up your tent with a slew of flashing lights, you'll give the game away!

    Summary:

    1. Camping generators provide a degree of convenience and comfort without interfering with getting closer to nature.
    2. For camping in tents, a 1800W generator has the performance you need for all your technological gadgets and devices. You can upgrade this by investing a little more money. Ideally, a 2,600W generator is sufficient for most camping needs.
    3. To avoid damaging your electronics (and enjoy the quietest experience possible), we strongly advise you to get an inverter generator. It costs extra, to begin with, but it will pay for itself over time.
